Question?

blogCartoon
Are you more or less likely to continue to blog if no one is reading or commenting on your blogs?

For example: If you know that no one is going to read what you write, do you think you would be more liberal with the information that you put down?
or
If you know that a lot of people are reading your blog are you more apt to posting more often and with greater details so people know what is going on?

On the other side of that:
If you know a lot of people are reading would you be more careful of what you say and how you say it?
or
If you know a lot of people are reading would you say what ever you wanted and just spill your life in to the digital world?

Just curious, let me know.

Thoughts on blogging and Things i should Do

I watched the movie Final Cut tonight. that is blogging to an extreme. the difference is that WE get to pick and choose what we want others to remember about our experiences. i do some times wish that i could just throw down what ever popped in to my head, unfortunately i always over process and edit even casual conversions. at any rate, i thought the movie was good, just good. i did not have the same reaction that my parents did. i believe that they really did not like it at all since they are the ones who gave it to me after watching it. they said i could borrow it as long as i did not bring it back.

Things i should do - And things i am doing instead:

Look through and pay bills-Making a nice stack of unopened envelops on the mantel that i hope i will not be able to see when they turn off my power.

Clean off my desk and make working in my office easyer.- Setting up new blog pages and typing this blog in hopes that some one some day will read it and think “well his life was not that boring”.

Cleaning up dog poop- Listening to my wife weed wack the hell out of the yard knowing all to well how much work she is doing. I have to give her props for this, she did a great job and even turned down my half harted offer to help. By the way as a side note, she does the whole yard and make it look great. even though only god can kill the crab grass we have growing in the front corner of our yard, she still pulls it off. she mows, weeds, fertilize and waters. the poop is my responsibility however and i should have cleaned it up.

Writing a script for the project i have planed-Surfing the net and calling it research, all the while thinking i should just be writing a script and start contacting people to let me shoot it. for two whole weeks this project was like a train on the fast track to completion. it only took one person to derail it and i have not been putting in the effort i should to get it back on track.

Working on movies-Making a list of things i should be doing and what i am doing instead.

Quote of the day:
Bumper sticker on an excavating truck “Our hoes are legal.”

Just right, nope, try again.

Using a new program to do my editing has definitely been a learning experience. the girls gone fishing video has been my first completely Final cut edited video. It was hard enough to figure out how to make the program do what needed to be done but then came printing. Trying to get FC to make the output size keep the same aspect ratio from start to finish was a challenge. i printed the video 5 time before i got to and acceptable level of skew. I just hope that i will become as good with FC as i was with Premiere. of corse i have several years of working with premiere and only 2 weeks working with FC. only time will tell.

Mom’s new computer

So mom got a new computer for her birthday. If you have been reading, i can now tell you that was deal #2. Dad bought her a brand new Dell computer with 3 gigs of ram and a 3ghz dual processor. It also has 500 gigs of hard drive space, and just to make sure she did not run out of room he also bought her a 500 gig external storage drive. oh, and by the way that new 22” lcd monitor is total sweet. Ryan and i spent a good couple of hours setting up and trying to transfer files from moms old computer to her new one. after being told (by the old computer) that it would take 237 mins. (which is roughly 4 hours) to transfer a 3.5 gig file we decided to let it go and call it a night. the next day i came back and picked up both boxes and took them home where i could work on them while doing other things. once i started to investigate why the old computer was running so slow i discovered that it had about 35 (and this is not an exaggeration) background programs running. after closing all of them but the ones need to run the computer things picked up speed. i spent several more hours sifting though moms computer to find things i thought she might need and downloaded drivers for the stuff she would be hooking up to the computer. on sunday morning, hopping that she had not come home yet i took the boxes back to their house and spent 2 more hours hooking up all the cords fighting stuff on moms desk and making sure it had an internet connection and was working ok. Later that day dad called me and kept me on the phone while he brought mom in to show her the new present. she was happy, i think. any way, we still have a lot to do. we still have to reload all the programs that she used on a regular basis and make sure we got all the things she want to have on her new computer. I hope to show her how to close down her background programs so that this Really fast computer does not start running slow too. but that having been said Happy birthday mom.

Things not to do on a Movie Set!

There are a certain number of things you do not do on set to keep your dignity. these things you should try to avoid if you do not want to completely embarrass your self and look like a total fool. one of the following happened to me to day which inspired this post. I am not going to tell you which one because i think all of them have happened to me at one time or another.

Listed in no particular order of embarrassment:

1.Knocking over a C Stand at any time, or any pice of equipment, but particularly in the middle of a shot while the camera is rolling. this will immediately focus everyones attention on you. the camera will stop and everyone will wait for you to pick it up and set it right. then afterward make fun of you as if you have never been on a movie set before and have no idea what you are doing. If you can in any way make it look like all you where doing was trying to save it from falling in the first place, you might come out of this one looking like an almost hero. If not just apologize to who ever your hit or almost hit and try to stay out of sight for a while.

2.Farting in the middle of a quiet scene in front of the entire crew, cast and any one else who might just happen to be there, resulting in the cast busting out laughing and unable to regain composure for 15 min. during which time the whole crew waits and stares at you for adding an extra 30 mins. to their day. Try to cover that one up, i dare you. your best defense in this situation is to just smile and say “did you guys hear that too? Sorry it was suppose to be silent.”

3.Walking thru a door right in to the shot only to have it lock behind you. there you are stuck in front of the whole crew busting a shot and unable to escape. there is really no way out of this one. Just hang your head, apologize and quietly get out of the shot. at this point you should keep a low profile for the rest of the day and make sure you know where the camera is pointing for the remainder of the shoot.

4.Talking shit about the director, sound mixer or anyone else who has on a headset while standing next to the boom guy with a live mic. There is really no getting out of this one. I usually do it on purpose if i know the mixer but if you get caught doing to some you don’t know you should just avoid ever talking to that person ever again. If you have to deal with that person again and there’s no getting out of it , go up to them and say” hey do you remember that time i was talking shit about you and you heard me over the comtex? That was funny huh.” if they say “dude that just happened five mins. ago.” You have to respond with, “I know that was funny huh.”

5.Blowing up a building. I did not do this one personally but i have been there when it has happened. If you are an FX guy and you have to do a fire/explosion effect and you blow up a building or lift the roof off a house, all you have to do is say” oops, i might have given that a little to much.” and just go back to cleaning up your gear.

Any ways, i could go on and on about what not to do on set as the list is very large and detailed but i will save you time and energy by saying just stay away from them and get a real job. As far as which one of these i did today, i will nearow it down, I did not blow up a building.

Introducing a new Section

IMG_0404
Yesterday i started a new section on this site-- M C D--
Movie Clip of the Day.
If you have not checked it out yet maybe you should.

any way, i thought i might just post some random things that i find fun and interesting or just plane weird. I might not have time to do one every day but i will try to keep putting new things up every now and again.

by the way: Deal/Project #2 hours to date spent:4.5 and ticking. I can defiantly see why this project was important to the person it is for. If i had to put up with this crap i would have lost my mind.

Bad deals and time taking Projects

IMG_0416
You ever make a deal that after the fact you think, “wow what was i thinking? is my brain working right, i will have to check that out.” i have apparently done this twice this week and am wondering if i should not make any more deals this week.

Deal one, Pick up and deliver track before going to work.
This deal was made in between takes on the set today. If i had been thinking at all what it would in-tale me doing i should have probably said i could not do it. at any rate it will start with me getting up at 5:00 am and racing all over the city. (not fun).

Deal two, I can not go in to details at this time, but i can say this: It is going to take 10 times longer to complete this task than initially thought. in my mind a simple thing, once started, a completely different story emerged. I have been working 12 hours a day this week and this task needs to be complete by saturday night. I work up in-till saturday night so i am not sure how this task is going to get done. I have a partner on this task who is also extremely busy right now. anyway i sure something will happen to allow me to finish.

New Iphone coming out.

so with the new iphone coming out Melissa is very excited. we made a deal that when the new 3G iphone comes out, if i can buy one, she gets my iphone. July 11th is the day that they will be available, which is great cuz i have one month to sell, save and barter for enough to buy one.

a lot of people just can’t see what the fuss is all about. to them i say use one for a day, a week, oh i’m not giving this back.

More Blogging

I have certainly not been very good about keeping up lately. I am working on a show that has had very good hours and not very hard work, you would think that i might make a little time to blog, but alas i have not. I have been very busy though. last week i was sick, which by the way takes up a lot of time in which you get nothing done. this week i have been working and building things for work at my office.

For those who care i hope to have an ice blocking video done by this weekend. i can not believe how long something so simple has taken me. I am partly going to blame having to learn completely new soft ware and editing program, and partly blaming not being able to decide on the music.

The girls gave me my fathers day present tonight, they are awesome.
