Why Do I Blog?
I blog for a number of reasons, and they all very from the completely selfish to my desire to share with others. the following Reasons why i blog are listed in no order other than that is when they came to me while writing.
I Don’t keep a journal so this is one way for me to keep track of what i have been up to. It is fun to look back and see what was happining in my life. I do have some old, and i mean really old, journals from when i was about 8 or so. some of the things i wrote make no sense to me now. but they are fun to read. I have never wrote any really personal stuff in journals or else where, to paranoid i guess, so for me blogging is almost better than a journal. A Journal that i can share now instead of when i am dead (which by the way is when people will read your journal if they don’t toss it out with the rest of your junk).
It’s fun to think about what to blog about next. Things happen to you during your day and you thing, “how can i blog about this in a way that will be interesting to other people. and some days you don’t care if its interesting at all, you blog for you and for your sake.
When you blog you are forced in to describe your experience or feelings into terms other people can understand. some one who has never been to Jamaica can read your blog and see how you experienced it. i have found that things you think you will remember and don’t write down in detail don’t make a lot of sense to you, or any one else, latter, case in point my younger journals. so you have to write in a way that will show others what you are talking about or feeling.
I like reading about other peoples lives. it is fun to know that other people are going through or have gone through. Its nice to know your not alone. Call it voyeuristic if you will but we have all been fascinated by other peoples lives. Look at reality TV, if that is not blogging at it’s hight i don’t know what is. and with as popular as it is i am surprised more people don’t blog about what happened on reality tv. or better yet a Reality tv show about blogging.
i have learned about what its like to: live on the Grand Caiman Islands, Travel to the Arctic and where the best Scuba diving is from reading other peoples Blogs. This is my small way of giving something back. Share what i have to offer others. maybe some one will learn some thing from me one day.
I have family and friends that i don’t see that often, some are out of town others just don’t cross my path that often. Blogging is a way to keep those who know me and those that don’t, aware of what is going on in my life and get to know me better.
I had reservations about blogging when i started. I am by nature a very paranoid person. “what? you want me to put everything out on the internet?” “Are you Freekin crazy?” as you can see i got over that. i am careful not to put to much info out in to the great wide open, and if you think that you know me well just by reading my blog you will probably be suprised once you really get to know me. But i feel that i give out enough that people can relate to me and see what type of trouble i am getting my self into.
I want to be noticed. Don’t you? It’s nice to write a blog and have people comment on it. You get life feed back, you get people looking at you waiting to see what is going to happen next. people like to feel important, even if its to themselves. “hey check out my Self important blog!”
I want to be heard. if i have something to say i blog it. no one can stop me. and why would they? its fun to see some one make an ass of themselves. some times i make really good points( at least i think so). if some one reads it great if not you can always say I blogged about that once, go check it out.
i have heard people say “blogging is just one more way to not have to interact with people, just like email, what ever happened to calling some and talking on phone or going to out to eat.” I have received calls from people i have not heard from in years after a post they read moved them in to calling me. I get emails from people asking me for more details about my posts. to be honest i have probably had more interaction with people since i started my blog, then when i just called people. besides i can reach more people with blogging, i.e. if i had to call every one who was going to read this blog and tell them everything that i am saying here i would probably have little time for any thing else.
And i just like doing it, its Fun. try it.
So yes Mandi there is a Santablog, (there really is. i checked it out. its cute. www.santa.com)
Why do you Blog?

Nothing to say.

I don’t really have any thing to say tonight but it had been a while since i have posted so i thought i would throw somthing up just so people don’t forget about me.
I spent the day working on rearanging and organizing my office. my grand plan of hiding all my computer stuff and just having a monitor and a keyboard on my desk failed miserably. I had everything where i wanted it to go, it looked great. I was so happy. then i started running power and cables. once everything was hooked up i turned it all on. well it worked but i had some major ghosting on my monitor. every thing was blurry and i was not happy. I had to compromise between keeping everything looking clean and simple and having my stuff closer to my monitor. pretty boring huh?

Show Time!!

Dad gave us tickets to see a great show tonight. The Curious Savage. It was a great play. It was one of the best shows i have been to in a long time. at first you are not sure what is happening but mid way thru act one you are laughing very hard. this show had it all, it made you laugh, made you want to cry, it kept you guessing. Very well done.
Finally a word from apple
apple has finally acknowledged that there was a problem with the switch. this is the email i received this morning (somewhat edited to save you from having to read it all):
We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.
Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.
We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.
Thank you,
The MobileMe Team
Well, to little, to late. after receiving this email i decided to try iweb to post my redirect info. guess what? it still didn’t work. wow! i hope this will be the last time you have to hear about my problems with .mac but who knows.
Sorry Google Readers!
by the way i hope to have the movie section redone in the next few days. photos will take longer because they are a lower priority for me. thanks for hangin in there with me.
Goodbye .mac
apple is no longer hosting my site. after several days of not having comments on my blog and then today not even being able to post to my blog i have decided to leave them. i will still use the idisk and other some of the other features that were not effected by the mobileme switch, but my blog is moving. I have no dought that i will probably have other problems in the future but for now this will do. its funny that i had just switched to mac and now there are all kinds of problems. whoa, i am getting ahead of my self. i should say that i still love my computer and i will not be willing to give that up any time soon, but i am very frustrated with the way apple handled, or didn’t handle the massive switch over this last week.
this is the email i sent to apple regarding my problems with iweb/mobile me.
What version of iWeb are you using to publish to MobileMe?
2.0.3
When did you first notice this issue?
when you lunched mobile me.
What happens, including any error messages, when you try to publish your site?
well it started out for a few days that i would get a publish error message after trying to publish. then it move up to not being able to publish at all because it would tell me that i had to sign in to .mac while i was signed into .mac. it has been very frustrating and i am very upset as a new mac user to have this happen to me after having all of my friends tell me how great mac/apple have been. Just as a side note even they are very upset with apple right now. I think we would all be a little less upset if apple would let us know that they even acknowledge there is a problem and that they were doing something about it. so far we have heard nothing. I have been researching other hosting options and will probably not renew my .mac/mobilme account. my wife has a trial .mac account and when hers expires we will find her an alternative as well. if this problem is resolved we may stay but at this point i feel as though i have wasted my money and time on your services.
Frustration continues.

well it has been 4 days that apple has let me down on this site. i am considering a move. if that does happen the link www.branitt.com will still be the same, it will just be some one else hosting. with the colossal screw up apple had with the release of the 3g iphone, 2.0 update for the original iphone and the mobile me switch over all on the same day i guess they have not had time to fix the problems of the current paying customers. as i have just recently switch to mac this does not bode well of winning my confidence as a company and platform i can stand behind and count on. Or I could just be pissed off that my site isn’t working right, we’ll see.
on the flip side of all of that, i can tell you that i have been as equally pissed off at microsoft over the years flat out know no one was doing any thing to fix the problems. at least with apple there is a chance that support will hear the crys of their customers and try and do something about it. where as pleas to microsoft for help falls on deaf ears.
I would love for you to leave a comment about this but you can’t, AND THAT IS WHY I’M SO PISSED OFF!!
First real frustration.

so i have been a mac user for a month or so now and today i have had my first real frustration. the funny thing is it is not at the computer itself but with the people who made it. apple just switched from .mac accounts to “mobile me” accounts. these services are like web hosting and online storage and mail servers. well they did the switch yesterday and now i can only partially publish my blog. so if you can’t leave comments this is why. the computer however is working just fine. i have to pay for this service by the way, and i find it very frustrating that it is not working. once it is fully functional it will supposedly be much better than it was with better and more features and what not. but if it does not work at all then i fail to see the point. i know i should be patient but i am paying for this service and i did not ask for the upgrade/change over or what ever they are calling it. so that is my rant for the day(if it posts).
Moving
I just spent the day helping my brother’s family move. my body and i have decided that is a lot of work. their house is beautiful. i think they made a good choice and will be happy there for awhile, i hope. good luck guys, i had fun helping you.
Office Overhaul

this past weekend i have been taking every thing in my office and trying to find a place in the house to store it while i get ready to redo my office. my plan was to take every thing out paint put in some new lights, reorganize and move stuff back in, should take a couple of days right? i am on day 4 now, there is still stuff in the office i have yet to find a place for, and to be honest i am getting kinda tired of moving all this stuff. but at least i am not moving the entire house (sorry ryan). if i ever get finished i will post before and after pics. i hope it will be worthy of posting about, cuz my past setup certainly have not been.

Happy 4th!!!!!
we went to a friends house for our 4th OJ party. the kids got wet and played all night, ate hotdogs and hamburgers. most of them sat through the first box of fireworks but then one by one wandered off. It was a great party everyone had a good time. be watching for the video soon. ( i hope to have time to throw something together. if i don’t try not to hold it against me.)
Film People

One of my favorite things about working on movie sets is meeting great people who are like me. I am not talking about things such as having the same interest and liking the same music, although that is nice to. I mean people that are like me. It takes a certain type of person to work in the film industry. not everyone can go to work for some one who is yelling, and i mean yelling at them about something they have no control over and still come back the next day. It takes a certain type of personality to be able to go to a different place and work with people they don’t know while doing something new every day. most people would quit a job that required them to work a 96 hour work week. people who work in film vary as with any place but every one on a movie set has at one point said” i knida like this job.” Granted that most people initially get sucked in to the “glamor of working on movies” but soon realize that glamor only happens in the theater with a tub of popcorn in your lap. Once they see the truth they and decide “if its not glamours i’m not doing it” they get out and find a different job. the true movie people that you meet are the ones that when you ask them “how long have you been doing this?” their reply is “too long, or long enough to know better.” most of these people want to get out of the business but it won’t let them go. you can leave the movie business but it never leaves you. I have left the business three times. I have had “Real Jobs” but i was not made to have a “Real Job”. Do I love what I do? Most days i would answer “Hell no, but i hate every thing else”.
But i digress, I love meeting great people in this business. every now an then you meet people that you really connect with, share similar life stories or complete opposite life stories. some times when you meet these people you want them dead, only later down the road they turn out to be your best friend. the truth is when working on a movie you spend more time with the people you work with than you do with your family. Some times you end up knowing more about them than their family does, and vice versa. Ok i will stop throwing up on this blog and end by saying I love making new friends. Good friends make the wast of time that is filmmaking bareable.
